Bulletin Board of Student Created Poems.

This bulletin board is located in the main hallway in McKay Education building and has been their since the beginning of the year. I chose this bulletin board because it really caught my eye for several reasons. There are some things that this bulletin board does a good job of doing in convey its message and there are some thing that they creator could do a better job of to better display their work. First lets start with the positive the creator of this bulletin board did a good job of sticking using only three colors which make looking at this board more esthetically pleasing. Next even though, there is a lot of information on the board it is all easily readable and some of the poems are pretty good I especially liked the one on McDonald's.

However there are some things that the creator could have done better on to make this bulletin board even better. For starters the title of this Bulletin board kind of gets lost amongst all the poems and at first glance it it appears that this isn't even a title for this bulletin board. Next the board is too, cluttered the creator need to put less poems on the bulletin board because it will detour people form stopping to read it and people won't want to read all of those poems. Overall this bulletin board is good not great but with a little improvement it could be outstanding.

The History of Presidential Primaries

This bulletin board is located in the History department building on the second floor. This board contains many pins, bumper stickers, and advertisements for past presidential candidates. This board has been up for at least two years. The colors of the board are very bright and really catch the eye. On the blue half there is material from democratic candidates and on the red half there is material from republican candidates. I chose this particular board because I feel it is one of the interesting bulletin boards on campus. The main strength of this board is that it is very eye catching. The boarder around it makes you focus in the middle of the board while the colors make you focus on one half at a time. This bulletin board has many weaknesses too. There is no given title on this board. Even though the board is self explanatory, it still needs a title. Another problem with this board is there is too much information and it is not organized in any manner. If I were to put this board together I would group material together based on a time line. I would put Bush material with Bush material and FDR material with other FDR material. Another problem with the board is that much of the print is quite small and would be hard to read from a distance. While this board has many flaws it still gets it's message across and it is still one of my favorites.

Bulletin Board on Presidential Primaries

This bulleting board was created in January of 2008. Since I am a historian in training, this bulletin board was created by me, mccain4prez08. This could have been seen from the months of Janauary and February in the Building D residence suites. This bulletin board provides multiple positive examples of still projected media, but there are some drawbacks to this selected bulletin board. For this board, I used three major colors, red, white, and blue, the colors of the American flag. The flag background fit will with the theme of the bulletin board. Also, the title of the bulletin board can be seen on the top of the piece. By using contrasting colors in the title section, I was able to highlight the main idea. Another positive aspect of this bulletin board is that the pictures of the presidential candidates are large enough to see from the optimal distance.

While there are multiple strengths of the bulletin board, there are also multiple flaws with this creation. The most obvious flaw with the bulletin board is the small size of the font. The material should have been printed out in a larger font so that the information could be seen from farther away. The information located on the top right of the bulletin board is much too small to read from a distance. Also, there is simply too much material in each of those boxes. Instead of writing a paragraph for each box, I should have limited the amount of words on the board. Also, I did not use a boarder for this bulletin board. It is important to use a bulletin board to focus the attention to the center of the board. Although the American flag background may look nice, I believe that the background draws attention away from the material located on the board. If I were to do this bulletin board again, I would make those changes to make this more readable and less cluttered.

Bulletin Board

This bulletin board is located in Bard Hall. I choose this bulletin board because it follows the five guiding principles for visual design that we learned about in class. The one basic idea for the bulletin board is respect. It is also simple, organized, has legible characters, and is balanced visually. Although this bulletin board did not use three colors it still balanced. The use of the colorful background is acceptable because the rest of the information is in black and white. The colorful background gets your attention. The quote on the left hand side of the board follows all of the guidelines for lettering media. This quote is an appropriate size, spaced accordingly, spelled correctly, and is legible. The bulletin board also has a variety of font sizes and styles but does not go over board. The issue that I see with this bulletin board is the information in the center of it. There is too much information on one piece of paper and the reader is not able to read it. These papers look cluttered and I do not think anyone is going to stop and take the time to read what is on that section of the bulletin board. The information on the right side of the board is acceptable. The font is big enough to read although the information after each letter in the word respectful could have been a little bit bigger.
